What We Did On Our Summer Holidays

Except we weren't on holiday, this was all crammed in between work days. But it was summer, and the sun was out, as you may have noticed.

In August we played at Ladyfest Bristol, along with a bunch of other great acts like Hooker, Hello Cuca, Flamingo 50, the Gossip, Rita Lynch, and lovely Allison Wolfe (ex-Bratmobile) bouncing around being part-time compere and performer. Also a remarkable band called Mooz who were unfortunaly planning to break up shortly after the festival. There was a fantastic show of comix art, films (including the amazing 'Group'), and more. They'd even got their own shop for the weekend - which is now looking more long-term. More info at
the shop's beautiful site.

Straight after Bristol we played a London show at the Archway Tavern. Two weeks later we found ourselves added to the bill at Ladyfest Amsterdam - a flying visit to a beautiful place we'll surely return to. Mere days after that was Ladyfest Manchester. In the space of three weeks, we became Ladyfest veterans.

In Manchester, in a large arts complex which housed the whole event (Bristol & London's Ladyfests were spread over several venues), there were workshops (drumming, drag kings), panels (future of Ladyfest), films, lots of bands of course - didn't see many of them this time, but we did catch up with our old friend Rosie from Pussycat Trash, now performing as Ithaca Art Ensemble. We stayed (along with our pals Lesbo Pig) with Valerie's guitarist Vix - thanks Vix!

Now we're planning a new Linus EP, to be recorded this winter & released in the spring. Looking forward to playing at Frock On in Glasgow in December - no London shows scheduled for sure for the time being, though we will be playing before too long...
-Andy

hello.

bored in work, and playing on livejournal, and found your journal.

i was at ladyfest manchester (and arrived late into the 'future of ladyfest panel') and really enjoyed your set. ladyfest manchester was a bit of a belated celebration for me. i grew up in northern ireland, and was a riot grrl on my own with no gigs to go to in my youth. i remembered reading about you when you must have just been starting out, so i was most excited to see you perform!

i always feel like random posts like this must be a bit stalky, so i hope you don't feel stalked - i'm quite normal!

Yay, thanks!

Do you know Ruth & Terry who did the 'Muffmonsters on Prozac' zine in NI a few years ago?

i've lived in liverpool for the last nine years, so i never came across the zine, or them unfortunately. sounds like the sort of thing i would have loved! are they still doing the zine now?

No, Terry moved to London a long while back & I'm not sure what Ruth's up to. You're in Liverpool, eh? You got some amazing local bands up there - Zombina & the Skeletones, Flamingo 50... do you ever go to Zombina's "Club Useless"? They played in London last night... such talented souls!

yeah i know the 50 very well (went out with their flatmate for a bit) and just think they're top, and i've seen zombina a couple of times. first time i saw zombina it was one of their first gigs and they were really awful, and then i went to useless a couple of months ago, just before i moved back to belfast (i grew up in belfast, moved to liverpool for uni and stayed to do a phd, and have just moved back to belfast to start a job. just to be confusing!), and they were really amazing, a totally different band.

i'd love to get them and the 50 over to belfast to play, because they're both very different to anything that's going on over here musically. though having only just moved back and started a new job possibly setting up gigs is something that should wait for a bit!

i'm actually semi-contemplating doing a ladyfest belfast, maybe in 2005 (cause i've to submit my thesis this time next year and that has to be the priority!), so maybe they'll have to wait till then, if i do decide to do it. and linus may well get an email too....!
